About 6 years ago Harvey and I started a banner ministry. We felt after Harvey won his battle with stomach cancer that we needed to "give back" for the great miracle GOD had given us. We started doing banners for our church at that time and began to make them and donate to small churches that were struggling. We have made approx. 70 banners. Most have been donated, 4 even went to Hondouras just before Christmas.
We have sold a few which have gone to Texarkana, Golden, Mississippi, Harris Chapel UMC, Eastern Star in Dallas, Texas, and Longview. We have given several to local churches also. We really receive a blessing for doing this and hope others do as well. When I first wanted to make banners, our church had no money and it is expensive to make them. My siser-in-law called from Dallas and said they were having a rummage sale at Eastern Star and could I use bolts of satin for anything!
What an answer to a prayer!! She has brought almost 20 bolts of fabric. GOD really does answer prayers when we do things to honor him.
We love making GOD's House more beautiful, to glorify him. I design the banners and Harvey, the master carpenter, measures and makes sure I don't make any mistakes. He is good to help me hang them and put up new rods.
It is a passion we have and appreciate Mims Chapel letting us do this for the church. We love Mims Chapel and love doing it.

History of our Church
The first religious gathering place of the original pioneer families of the community is said to have been at the site of a sunken boulder, next to which the first crude log meeting house was constructed. Because of this boulder, the first structure was know as the "Old Rock Church".
About 1871, a larger one-room frame building replaced the log structure and the name was changed to Mims Chapel, after two brothers who were instrumental in procuring the six-acre tract of land. This white painted, one-room church remained in use until 1936, when a bad list to the structure necessitated its being torn down. The new church was built from the same material, except for necessary additions.
In January 1969, the old wooden building was torn down and replaced by a modern brick structure.
Mims Chapel maintains its strong historical background , while striving ever-forward to help spread God's glory and kingdom. Praise God in the highest! May Mims Chapel forever be the "Old Rock Church".
