Mims Chapel United Methodist Church

History of our Church

The first religious gathering place of the original pioneer families of the community is said to have been at the site of a sunken boulder, next to which the first crude log meeting house was constructed. Because of this boulder, the first structure was know as the "Old Rock Church".

About 1871, a larger one-room frame building replaced the log structure and the name was changed to Mims Chapel, after two brothers who were instrumental in procuring the six-acre tract of land. This white painted, one-room church remained in use until 1936, when a bad list to the structure necessitated its being torn down. The new church was built from the same material, except for necessary additions.

In January 1969, the old wooden building was torn down and replaced by a modern brick structure.

Mims Chapel maintains its strong historical background , while striving ever-forward to help spread God's glory and kingdom. Praise God in the highest! May Mims Chapel forever be the "Old Rock Church".

Jan. 15: Church Women United at Winterfield UMC , Longview @ 9:30

Jan. 22nd: Church Women United will have a soup luncheon for World Day of Prayer on Fri., Jan. 22 @ 11:30 am. It will be held at First United Methodist Church in Longview in the Heritage Room. Soup, cornbread and dessert will be provided by the executive board of the CWU. Please contact Joan Ramsey if you wish to attend.

Jan. 29: Gospel Singing and Dinner at Marshall Civic Center @ 5:oo pm

Jan. 30: Officer's Training at Jefferson UMC @ 9:30

Brenda remind eveyone that Mims Chapel will be taking a love offering for the people in Hatti on January 24. It will be announced in church Sunday the 17. thanks Bro. Richard
