As Christians, faith is a central part of our lives. Faith strengthens us. Faith guides us. The blessings, bounty, love, strength and comfort through our faith in GOD, CHRIST and the HOLY SPIRIT requires a response. It requires thanks and sharing. Our faith is nurtured through the scriptures, prayer and ritual. This is where we meet GOD and relate to the divine.

Faith is nurtured, strengthened and enhanced by food. Food is a gift from GOD. It represents GOD'S love for us.

The act of Holy Communion is a means of grace. In this sacrament we find a place where GOD offers each of us in tangible ways a channel for receiving GOD'S grace.
The relationship between food and faith is also found in our hospitality to others. It is imperative to offer hospitality to our friends and to the stranger. Hospitality has deep, profound meaning for our spiritual lives and is more than a sample offering of refreshment to a neighbor.

The rituals of feasting and fasting remind us of our need for GOD. The feasting we engage in around moments of celebration and praise fills us with GOD'S goodness.

When we can take the time to explore the spiritual benefits of being full or empty, the food given to us by GOD for our well-being will satisfy more completely.

The relationship between food and faith is often, overlooked by those of us who live in the United States culture. It is an almost subliminal connection that we only recognize when we are confronted with a book such as Food and Faith. Take a moment to praise GOD for the ever-present gift of life and love that food is for each of us.

We thank Shirley Kibbe and Betty Hunt who came from Longview today to present this wonderful program to the ladies of Mims Chapel. It was enjoyed by all.

Following the program a light lunch was served by Joan Ramsey and UMW ladies.
