Mims Chapel United Methodist Church: MIRIAM'S CIRCLE

History of our Church

The first religious gathering place of the original pioneer families of the community is said to have been at the site of a sunken boulder, next to which the first crude log meeting house was constructed. Because of this boulder, the first structure was know as the "Old Rock Church".

About 1871, a larger one-room frame building replaced the log structure and the name was changed to Mims Chapel, after two brothers who were instrumental in procuring the six-acre tract of land. This white painted, one-room church remained in use until 1936, when a bad list to the structure necessitated its being torn down. The new church was built from the same material, except for necessary additions.

In January 1969, the old wooden building was torn down and replaced by a modern brick structure.

Mims Chapel maintains its strong historical background , while striving ever-forward to help spread God's glory and kingdom. Praise God in the highest! May Mims Chapel forever be the "Old Rock Church".

MIRIAM'S CIRCLE

Miriam's Circle met Tuesday night @ 7:00.

Present were Joan Ramsey, Louise Phillips, Liz Hall and Brenda Sisk. This group has lots of things in planning and will advise everyone of them at later date. Paula Hathcoat is working on a Beth Moore study for the group. Louise Phillips reported on the Back Pack Buddy assistance program for school children of Marion Co. and that our church is willing to help FUMC in Jefferson with this program. Details will be inserted into the bulletins. We have a "Gong Show" planned for October. It will be lots of fun with anyone who wishes to participate with funny skits, jokes and any kind of talent. Punch and cookies will be served following the show. Be thinking of something funny if you would like to be involved in this show.
