Sermon for today: "JESUS the Disturber".......... Luke 12: 49-51
"I AM come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth: I tell you, Nay; but rather division."
When JESUS began to teach and preach, HE caused great turmoil and confusion among the people. Even when HE preached in HIS home town a committee was formed to ask HIM to leave. They were afraid and confused by HIS words and by his miraculous works. Many wanted to follow HIM, but did not want to give up their worldly ways. They watched as HE cast demons from a man into a group of swine and they were afraid.
You cannot completely follow JESUS unless you give up ways that are not pleasing in HIS sight. True peace in your heart can only come when we serve him 100% and put our trust in HIM.

History of our Church
The first religious gathering place of the original pioneer families of the community is said to have been at the site of a sunken boulder, next to which the first crude log meeting house was constructed. Because of this boulder, the first structure was know as the "Old Rock Church".
About 1871, a larger one-room frame building replaced the log structure and the name was changed to Mims Chapel, after two brothers who were instrumental in procuring the six-acre tract of land. This white painted, one-room church remained in use until 1936, when a bad list to the structure necessitated its being torn down. The new church was built from the same material, except for necessary additions.
In January 1969, the old wooden building was torn down and replaced by a modern brick structure.
Mims Chapel maintains its strong historical background , while striving ever-forward to help spread God's glory and kingdom. Praise God in the highest! May Mims Chapel forever be the "Old Rock Church".
